Are You A Linchpin?

Saturday, June 12, 2010

The latest buzz word in the blogosphere is "Linchpin". It's an old word that has been coined by the business guru, Seth Godin, to refer to movers and shakers. If you haven't heard of Seth or read his blog, I highly recommend you check it out. It is one of the best blogs out there on leadership.
The definition of a linchpin is "a locking pin inserted in the end of a shaft, as in an axle, to prevent a wheel from slipping off; a central cohesive element."

The Internet is both wonderful and disturbing at the same time. Yes, there is a vast dark side that is on the verge of making the "wheel" fly off the axle in our modern culture. As society barrels down the road, the world is headed for a major crash. But, there is the other side of the Internet, one that I believe is much bigger than the dark side. This is the linchpin holding the wheel in place and steering culture away from catastrophe. That's where you and I come in. We can watch silently as the wheel comes off, or we can become linchpins in our world and help influence culture. There is so much good happening in the world but few people are talking about it. Our culture desperately needs hope because hope keeps the wheel from flying off the axle.

Be a linchpin. Start a blog that encourages, leads and inspires. Don't use it to vent and point out all that is wrong with the world. Use it to show the world that hope is not lost. Use your Facebook, Myspace or Twitter profiles to fill the Internet with encouragement. Challenge your followers and friends to become better and to be linchpins too. You may not have thousands of people follow you like Seth Godin, but all it takes is just a few. Jesus changed the world by influencing twelve men. Those twelve went on to be linchpins for their generation and many generations to follow. Start today. We need you to be a linchpin.

That's a beautiful way of putting it. Thanks for the encouragement. I just started a blog that is geared towards married couples. I haven't gotten to the meat of it, but as God gives it to me I'll give it to those who are willing to go through the highs and the lows of marriage without walking away or allowing someone to put asunder what God has joined together.

Great. Keep writing. As you write about what God is walking you through it will be an encouragement to others who are walking through the same ups and downs. Couples need to hear that they can be successful. Thanks for your comments.

What a wonderful way of putting it, a linchpin. That was such an encouraging post. I just started my blog, It gives me the courage to keep on doing what I believe the Lord has instructed me to do. Thank you for allowing the Lord to use you to encourage others to join the good fight of faith through the internet.
