Finding Rest in a Restless World

Return unto your rest, O my soul; for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you. For you have delivered my soul from death, mine eyes form tears, and my feet from falling." Psalm 116:7 - 8

Rest is not something that comes to you. You must come to it. The verse above says, "Return to your rest, O my soul." Unrest comes when you move away from it. Rest, on the other hand, never leaves you and is always available, but you have to move towards it. If you want it, you must take it. It doesn't take hold of you. You must take hold of it.

What moves us away from rest? By forgetting how the Lord sees us in His eyes. The enemy constantly tries to convince us that we do not have the Lord's favor and that He has treated us wrong. When we start to believe that we are turning away from rest and turning towards unrest. We cannot judge how God sees us by our current surrounding or circumstances, but only by the truth which is spelled out here in Psalm 116. This is the truth - The Lord has dealt bountifully with you! How do you know that? How do you prove that? It is in the fact that he delivered our souls from death, our eyes from tears, and our feet from falling. That is bountiful!

So, be at peace! You can return to your rest because you can be assured that the Lord has dealt with and will continue to deal with you bountifully. That you can count on.

I don't want to move away from rest, but rather move towards God. His love for me is never ending.
