Get a Handle On the Truth and Let It Get a Handle On You

get a handle on the truth and let it get a handle on you
I have been feeling a deep sense of urgency lately from the Lord that the Church needs to be encouraged to develop a renewed passion for His word, that God wants to impart a deep desire for the word that would become so strong that it affects everything we say, do and think. I believe He is saying that if we will pursue it, then He will begin pouring into His people a renewed depth of wisdom and understanding for overcoming the days ahead. If we don't it will be to our detriment. Paul shares this same passionate word with Timothy. In 2 Timothy 2:15 he admonishes him to "do your best to present yourself to God as one approved...who correctly handles the word of truth."

There are two things that I believe are critical for us to grasp that are essential for us in this hour. The first is we must ensure that we can correctly handle the word of God. This comes by reading it, studying it, meditating on it, and committing ourselves to it wholeheartedly. You and I must be students of the word. We must be convinced that the word is the absolute truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

Second, we must let God's word handle us. It's not enough just to study it and know what it says. It must become a part of us. If it isn't transforming us then we are not letting it handle us. We need to become completely infected with the truth. We are in desperate need of an epidemic to sweep the church so that the world takes notice and realizes that something is suddenly different about us. I'm tired of seeing the world inoculate Christians to where they are slowly developing an immunity to the truth. We need the Word to inoculate us so that we become immune to the ways of the world.

Let's start today. Take time to get your daily dose of God's word. Let it speak to you and then share it with those around you. Be an influencer. Post it on your Facebook and Twitter updates. See how many you can infect with the truth.

Excellent post and a timely word for all believers. It is time to take God's Word seriously. We have to not just read it, but do it, even when those actions and convictions run counter to popular opinion and convention. That should come as no surprise, God's ways are just so different from ours. Keep up the good work.

Thank you, Mary. May Paul's words from Romans become every believer's driving force - "For I am not ashamed of the gospel." Blessings!
