How To Keep Your Sanity During The Election

keep calm and trust god
"Why are the nations so angry? Why do they waste their time with futile plans? But the one who rules in heaven laughs. The Lord scoffs at them." Psalm 2:1, 4 (New Living Translation)

It's the day after Super Tuesday. So many are trying to wrap their heads around what I can only call a carnival of fools that we are being held hostage to. I don't have answers and I certainly won't attempt to jump in to the political fray. I just simply want to remind us of two very simple, yet profound truths found in scripture that will help us not only keep our sanity through all this craziness, but be filled with hope and faith.

#1 - No matter who is president, God is King!

Regardless of who wins the presidential election in November, Christ still reigns over heaven and earth. Everything that happens plays right into his ultimate plan. He is not caught off guard nor surprised by the geopolitical climate around the world today. He certainly is not up in heaven wringing his hands in worry about what what will happen next.

Whether the Democrats or the Republicans win the election, God will still be the same, and he will still be in control. Daniel 2:21 says, "He controls the course of world events; he removes kings and sets up other kings." Don't worry! He hasn't given up and he never will, so neither should we.

#2 - We have nothing to worry about when we put our trust in Him.

No matter what happens, we must not only remember this, we must make it a part of our daily lifestyle. Psalm 2:12 says,  "But what joy for all who take refuge in him!" When the world around us is in chaos and upheaval, we will be filled with peace and security. If you don't put your trust in him you will find yourself full of worry and anxiety. That is your only hope if your trust is in government.

It all boils down to trust. Romans 9:33 tells us that the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame. That is reassuring news! I am reminded of the words of a song from several years ago that said, "When you can't see his hand, trust his heart."  So just relax! God is in control and we just need to trust him.
